LEGO® Based Therapy is an evidence based, positive, structured, child-centred social development communication program.
This program is beneficial for children with social communication difficulties, anxiety, depression, social phobias, ADHD and more. LEGO® Based Therapy taps into the natural interest and motivations of children, making it a highly effective form of therapy.
This program is designed for a small group of 3 children. Children are assigned roles and then supported to work collaboratively on the same construction. Each child will get a turn of every role. The focus of the collaborative build is on social communication. The children are supported to listen to each other, as well use positive language and practice positive social interactions. Social skills, language, confidence, resilience, perseverance, self-esteem and the ability to regulate emotions and behaviours are just some of the many skills developed when children engage in LEGO® construction with their peers.
The children will begin each session choosing which LEGO® construction they would like to build. Roles will then be assigned and the children will together to build each chosen construction, with the support of the facilitator. After the structured part of the session the children will engage in some free time, where the children will build whatever, they desire, and then share their creation with the group.
To end each session, we will tidy up our space, and reflect on our time together.
